Fenech-Soler is one of the only bands I know of that has mastered the ability to create the perfect electro, pop DJ sound while actually being a live four piece act. Ross and Ben Duffy, Dan Soler and Andy Lindsay started making tracks at home with keyboards, drums and guitars and eventually started playing gigs all over London. The UK group has been gaining a lot of well deserved notoriety in the US as well after killing it at SXSW and releasing fantastic remixes of Sunday Girl’s “Self Control” and Marina and The Diamond’s “Hollywood.”
Their newest original jam “Stop And Stare” is the ideal blend of electro-synth and pop-rock. Fenech-Soler keeps this track clean, crisp and smooth and when I hear it I just wanna turn the volume up as loud as I can. It starts off with subtle, yet intirguing synths and vocals, followed up by the keyboard. The drums don’t come in for nearly a minute, but then everything hits at the first chorus when the beat drops hard and heavy, but just for the chorus.

I had to write about this song because to me it is questioning life. It is not about being in love or getting over love or finding love, but what am I doing right now? Another thing all people can relate to, but nothing anybody wants to recognize or acknowledge. From day one we are programed to go to school, get good grades, get a job, make money, have a family. Who said that is how it should be? What if you don’t want that? Is there another option?

It is hard to get away from how society programed us and the pressure we are so conditioned to feeling all the time. The “flashing lights” can be blinding. I don’t know where I am going, that is for sure…but isn’t that the best part of life? Just seeing where you will be today, tomorrow, next year.
I love the video for this song too because it acts out exactly how it makes me feel…lost in the city, wandering through tunnels, just trying to figure life out.
