Let’s talk some Freezepop. The indie, electro-pop quartet straight from Boston, Massachusetts have been cranking out quality tunes since the band formed back in 1999. Since then Freezepop, now known as Liz Enthusiasm, Sean Drinkwater, Christmas Disco Marie Sagan and Robert John Foster (founding member Kasson Crooker left the band last year), has released several EPs and three albums; their fourth album Imaginary Friends will be out November 9th. Freezepop tunes have been featured in some pretty popular video games too…ever heard of Rock Band, Guitar Hero or Dance Dance Revolution?

Freezepop – Magnetic

Freezepop is giving ‘Magnetic’ away on their site right now and it is a great taste of what the album might feel like. The song starts with a metronome like beat that hits hard and prepares you for the melodic layering. The rainbow synths and Liz’s deep vocals complete the perfect ‘80s dance feel. Then at 3:43 enter the higher, dreamy synths pulling everything together into a bittersweet ending. ‘Magnetic’ is modern, edgy ‘80s, if that makes any sense. Freezepop can take the essential sounds we all love from the decade and bring them to a new level. They have mastered updating the ‘80s to the 21st Century. I hear this song in a remake of Ferris Buller’s Day Off, not that it should EVER be done, but if so…

“You are so fun my magnetic one, you’re my polar opposite, I’ll enjoy, my magnetic boy,
there’s no guilt because of it.”

Liz’s lyrics are always witty and catchy, with a bit of humor and real life thrown into the mix. Who hasn’t been with somebody all wrong for them? Sometimes you need to stop thinking, let your faculties down and start feeling. If it is gonna happen, it is gonna happen; why waste time dwelling on the negatives when you could be enjoying. I am in love with the line “you’re the song that’s stuck in my head.” It couldn’t sum up being crazy about someone any better. When you have that attraction it is all you think about, like the annoying sing-a-long hits that get jammed into your head thanks to Ryan Seacrest.

The song ‘Frontload’ is another good one and you can check it on their myspace. Freezepop is playing at Boardner’s in Hollywood on September 30th and I am definitely planning to be there.
