Not all remixes are created equal and this track is a perfect example of what can happen when a song is re-envisioned in a way that honors its source material while taking it in a fresh and unexpected direction.

Chromeo – Hot Mess (Oliver Remix) by weareoliver

This treatment from Oliver opens by taking the funk-ified and rhythmic vocoder line from the original (I need somebody, I need someone, I feel so lonely, I feel so numb) and using it as a kinetic bed to handily build upon. What comes next is the kind of feverish and full-on sonic delivery that guarantees a feeling of unbridled euphoria that will make you feel amazing whether driving with the top down on a sunny summer day, obeying its irresistible beat on a sweaty dance floor at 2:30 AM, or merely allowing its uptempo fullness to propel you while walking the streets with your favorite headphones.

Around the 2:20 mark, the track transitions smoothly into a new phase and brings back the essence of the boys from Chromeo, chock- full of the 80′s signature funk synth lines and smooth (and oft humorous) vocals that have become so closely associated with the band’s appeal.

This track has the kind of intrinsic energy that will carry you along on its wave and compel you to hit the repeat button quite repeatedly indeed. Be sure to go check out Chromeo and Oliver if for some reason you’re unfamiliar with them.

I love Chromeo! I was able to see them live in Coachella, and they also performed this song and it made me feel so stoked. I love how Dave sounds in this song, and this remix of Oliver made the track more awesome.
