Frogtown is a new project between LA dudes Alex Koons and Sam Gabbard, two of the guys behind LexiconDon. They’ve posted a bunch of quality songs free for download on their SoundCloud, and ‘Strawberries’ is probably my favorite (‘Me For You’ & ‘Jersey Devil’ are also very good.) The vocals & lyrics give a sense of hopeless longing that everyone can relate to in some way or another. While the vocals really drive this song, that bass line and eerie guitar make it stand out as something a bit different – a little rock, a little pop, but overall just good music. Despite the lyrics, there’s still this feeling of optimism in the chorus, followed by a “fuck it all” ending that I totally appreciate. Put this on repeat and let it take you into the weekend.
LUXXURY edit. At this point you guys know whats up. The Baron has tackled jams that would never have made it into our sets and warped them into sonic gold. Every one in the series has been fresh and this one is no exception. See for yourself and catch up on the others if you havent been following. Quality music. Binary approves.
LA’s own, Active Child has a new EP out on Vagrant Records, and it’s seriously good. He put the Rapor EP up to stream on his Soundcloud last week and it’s worth more than a couple listens. I was completely sucked in by the hauntingly beautiful song ‘Silhouette’ with Ellie Goulding. There are some (all) fantastic songs on Rapor (pronunciation?)… namely for me, the emotionally driven ‘Feeling Is Strong.’ Stream the tracks, and the whole damn EP below, then go grab it on iTunes or wherever you prefer.
I can do it if you want me too… BASS. Space synth, flourishes and delay, a straight forward groove and a lush full sound. Final DJs introduce a resonating bass to accompany the atmospheric bliss symphonics that stirs something emo deep inside, beyond that its a tune and its freaking friday. Check a check it out.
Yessss so good. Right on time Chordashian deliver this tune. Binary family Chordashian have served this funky, airy, beautiful tune and we are loving it.There is an almost Goldroom feel here which, obvs we adore. See for yourself and check it out.
Our boy Touch Tone is back with a tremendous re-work of UK band Dive In‘s premiere release “Let Go.” The tune consistently builds, from a haunting landscape of minimal sounds into a fun, upbeat piece of disco-infused pop magic. The standout vocals (pretty sure that’s a dude), combined with TT’s addition of a driving bass line, arpeggiators and warm, pulsing piano chords make this a great song for the crisp fall season upon us. If you’re in LA, head to The Short Stop in Echo Park on Thursdays to hear Andrew DJ at his ‘Dance Yourself Clean’ night. Good tunes, good times.
Call Yourself a Lover, the first tune from pr0files is immediately pleasing and right at home on our blog. A new project from Baby Monster producer/guitarist Danny Sternbaum and songstress Lauren Pardini (vocals/keys). pr0files takes the quality production that we associate with Baby Monster and adds a longing female vibe. Bliss. Get familiar and expect big things. pr0files, Binary approves.
Brooklyn’s CHEZDUNE have created a gorgeous tune. Impeccably produced, there is a synth driven, otherworldly quality to this song that really accents Patrick Baker‘s stellar vocal performance. Between the layered vocal tracks and lush arrangements we are transported. I love it when a song can do that…actually take you away to a fantasy world and then drop you back off…better for the journey and missing the sensation of its touch. Download it while you can and check out both artists. Support the music that you LOVE. Happy Wednesday.
