Forever friends of Binary, Frogtown did a great premix for ‘Till Sunrise,’ our latest release from Goldroom. It holds true to the spirit of the original, while adding a bit darker, raw touch. Frogtown plays live tonight at The Satellite in Silverlake, so if you’re near LA come end your Labor Day weekend right with a little rock ‘n’ roll. There are also rumors of free pizza…
We’re super excited to be bringing The Green Room to Brooklyn in August! On August 9th we have DJ sets from Ghost Beach and Dom, a much anticipated live debut from AYER, and additional tunes provided by Dreamers and The Most Definitely. It all goes down at BK Bazaar, it’s all ages and it’s free, with a fairly simple twist – you need to go download and RSVP via applauze. We’ve been throwing some pretty fantastic parties across the country in SF, and are pleased to bring this event to NYC!!
Here we go again, San Francisco! Our last Green Room show in lovely San Fran was a crazy sellout, and this likely will be too. Twin Shadow, The Limousines, and option4 will be DJing, and you will be dancing your way through the night at DNA Lounge. Get your tickets right here, and definitely don’t miss this one!
Ahhh yes, another piece of sunny day ear candy to slap a smile on your face. Our good friend Touch Tone has paired up with fellow Angelenos machineheart for this ace remix of their poppy debut single “Circles,” which we are thrilled to be debuting here on the Binary blog. That driving bass line, those mystical arpeggiated synths… soon accompanied by the beautiful original vocal, some piano stabs and hand claps. This remix feels built for a stress free summer. Hop on over to Touch Tone’s facebook to download this little gem for free. And then I dare you to listen… just one more time.
Solidisco delivers another fantastic remix, this time for Icona Pop’s ‘Just Another Night.’ Bongos and handclaps and horns, oh my! Magical & majestic tune that just makes you want to get up and move. Great remix from start to finish – a perfect blend of pop and disco going on here. This one ought to carry you right into and through the weekend. You can pick it up on iTunes… and don’t forget, if you’re in San Francisco you can catch Solidisco DJ’ing tonight at DNA Lounge w/ Starfucker & Slaptop.
It’s a shame that it’s taken us so long to post ‘Fading’ – a light, bouncy, tropical little gem from LA’s Overjoy. Hoff & Metty, who are fantastic DJs in their own right, started this project almost a year ago, and for their first track they wisely enlisted the lyrical & vocal expertise of Binary alum and current Frogtown frontman Alex Koons (Koonsi). ‘Fading’ is one of those songs that takes you away for the full 4:32 – to a balmy jungle paradise, or maybe a breezy beach, sipping on a sweet coconut beverage. Overjoy are kindly offering this as a free download on their soundcloud, so head over there, grab it and check out some of their more recent tunes.
Next Sunday, June 29th, Binary & Neon Gold are teaming up again for a special Popshop Poolside w/ Zhala + Hendo on the decks at the Skybar pool deck in West Hollywood. Zhala is the first signing to Robyn’s Konichiwa label, and Hendo makes some seriously frothy mixtapes that you should check out (a little disappointed that the song below wasn’t re-titled Luther Vandfroth.) Naturally, this is the official pre-party for the Robyn + Royksopp Do It Again tour stop at the Hollywood Bowl… and while we can’t say for certain, a special guest may swing by to play some tunes at the pool. It’s free w/ RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org, so you really have no excuses. See ya there!
This is a pretty special one, and it’s only our second in SF! The Green Room is bringing some serious talent to San Francisco w/ STRFKR, Solidisco, and Slaptop supplying the tunes all night long. Put your dancin’ shoes on, and get to DNA Lounge on June 27th! Oh yeah, and it’s all ages… you can get your tickets right here.
Sweet and sensual with a pleasant touch of chilly funk. I really love this collab between 5 Reasons & Patrick Baker - the upcoming debut release from new label Palm Off. It hits all the right spots in the ears and the heart, with a groove that makes me want to go back on vacation immediately. Patrick Baker lending his vocals certainly helps to push the melody along, but 5 Reasons’ production also really stands out in the song. I like the lyrics quite a bit too. Beautiful, chill tune fit for the vibe of all those upcoming BBQs and patio hangs with your best friends. “We could be happy baby.” Indeed.
