Tropic Of Pisces – Symmetry (Lenno Remix)

Finnish producer Lenno has served up a real gem here with his remix of ‘Symmetry,’ a song by Brooklyn band Tropic of Pisces. It’s drastically different from the original, adding a light and breezy disco touch that makes me want to go jump in the Pacific. Windows down, ocean air blasting in your face – this is a remix that’ll end up on countless “it’s almost summertime” playlists. I dare you to listen to it just once.

Young Summer – Taken

Young Summer is the project of Washington, DC’s Bobbie Allen. The few songs she’s put out so far are emotive, haunting and ethereal, with lyrics to match. ‘Taken’ is the latest output, and it’s simplicity is it’s true strength, allowing you to be taken into a trance by those sweet, smoky vocals. An album is expected later this year on Ready Set Records, and I really hope it’s full of this dreamy, lush sound. If this doesn’t stir up some emotions, you might need to check your pulse.

For something a bit more upbeat, but still melancholy and hypnotizing, check out this older Young Summer tune, ‘Waves That Rolled You Under.’

MØ – Don’t Wanna Dance (Goldroom Remix)

Another fantastic remix out today from Binary godfather Goldroom. It has all the right ingredients that we’ve come to expect out of a great Goldroom remix – bouncy, dreamy and as always, an unmistakable tropical feel. This re-imagination takes MØ’s original vocal, which is wonderful on it’s own, and twists it into a dance floor beauty built for summertime DJ sets. I have a feeling you’ll be hearing this a lot at pool parties and beach festivals everywhere in the next couple of months. Or you can just listen here and pretend you’re on vacation, sipping a mojito on a beach of lush white sand.

Colleagues – Tears

Sweden’s (relatively) new five-piece band Colleagues recently posted this sweet little piece of pop goodness on their soundcloud, and it’s hard not to listen over and over. Go ahead and let yourself bask those layers of colorful synths and silky smooth vocals. Perfect tune to put some extra spring in your step. I have a good feeling about what these Swedish Colleagues have in store for us. ‘Tears’ isn’t for sale until April 14th, but in the meantime you can stream your heart out below.

Jensen Sportag – One Lane Lovers

This new track from Jensen Sportag is great – funky and dreamy, playful and badass at the same time.  It’s been almost two years since they released the ‘Pure Wet EP’,  and ‘One Lane Lovers’ may be better than anything the Nashville duo has put forth yet. This song comes out April 8th on Cascine, and it’s definitely one worth picking up. Have a listen and let yourself be taken back to time when neon and aerobics dominated over washed out colors and yoga.

Roosevelt – Small Hours

Hailing from Cologne, Roosevelt has taken John Martyn’s ‘Small Hours’ and turned it into four minutes of ambient bliss.  Similar to the 1977 original, this is one of those songs that just takes you away to another place, a world away from the stresses of everyday life. I picture myself floating on a warm lake somewhere in middle America when I listen to this — no traffic, sirens, loud construction, helicopters… no distractions whatsoever. Beautiful song that really just washes over you. Keep an eye on Roosevelt, and take a listen to his ‘Elliot EP’ if you haven’t yet.

Blondie – Rapture (Luxxury Edit)

Luxxury does it again with a spot-on edit of the Blondie classic. There’s really nothing to not love about this re-imagination of the 80s hit. Probably my favorite so far out of the ongoing series… but I mean shit, they’ve all been pretty great. The build up and then drop-in at 1:34, putting the bass front and center is just sooooo smoooooth – easily one of my favorite song moments in the last month or so. Plus, the re-arrangement on that classic Debbie Harry vocal is a thing of beauty. Good thing about being a little behind on posting this, is that there’s likely another sensational edit coming soon! In the meantime, kick back and hit repeat.

Falcon Punch – Smokey

Cosmic groove master Falcon Punch has delivered a strong dose of chill, balearic disco vibes with his beautiful new track “Smokey.” Six  minutes of funky bassline, congo drums, and sweeping Smokey Robinson vocals make this a perfect song for the pending spring sunshine. It’s up as a free download on his soundcloud, so put this funky tune in a playlist and let it take you away to a warmer place.

Strawberry
Frogtown – Strawberries

Frogtown is a new project between LA dudes Alex Koons and Sam Gabbard, two of the guys behind LexiconDon. They’ve posted a bunch of quality songs free for download on their SoundCloud, and ‘Strawberries’ is probably my favorite (‘Me For You’ & ‘Jersey Devil’ are also very good.) The vocals & lyrics give a sense of hopeless longing that everyone can relate to in some way or another. While the vocals really drive this song, that bass line and eerie guitar make it stand out as something a bit different – a little rock, a little pop, but overall just good music. Despite the lyrics, there’s still this feeling of optimism in the chorus, followed by a “fuck it all” ending that I totally appreciate. Put this on repeat and let it take you into the weekend.

Active Child – Rapor EP

LA’s own, Active Child has a new EP out on Vagrant Records, and it’s seriously good. He put the Rapor EP up to stream on his Soundcloud last week and it’s worth more than a couple listens. I was completely sucked in by the hauntingly beautiful song ‘Silhouette’ with Ellie Goulding. There are some (all) fantastic songs on Rapor (pronunciation?)… namely for me, the emotionally driven ‘Feeling Is Strong.’ Stream the tracks, and the whole damn EP below, then go grab it on iTunes or wherever you prefer.
