Phoebe Ryan – Ignition / Do You… (R. Kelly / Miguel Cover)

This is a cover to destroy all over covers. LA singer turned solo artist Phoebe Ryan shatters the new year’s releases with this cover mash of R. Kelly’s “Ignition” and Miguel’s “Do You…” I’m reminded of the time I saw Lykke Li perform at Antone’s in Austin, Texas where at the end of her set Lykke busted out a Lil’ Wayne rap. It’s the same level of excitement I felt then that I do when I listen to Phoebe’s cover. Don’t be a fool and start listening to it now and watch the video as well!

Chelsea Lankes – Down For Whatever

It’s only a couple weeks into 2015 and we might’ve already found one of our favorite songs. LA songstress Chelsea Lankes returns this year with a new original single “Down For Whatever” – an understated and elegant indie pop tune perfect for all of your DGAF nights. “Down For Whatever” is about youth, about living in the moment, about falling recklessly in love, about possibilities. We hear all of those things in this wonderful track.

“Down For Whatever” will be available 3/2 via B3SCI Records as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl. Be sure to pre-order HERE.

PINEO & LOEB – MTV (Money For Nothing)

Canadian duo PINEO & LOEB has released a banger of a new original mix. “MTV (Money For Nothing)” is a dance tune built off of the classic MTV tune “Money For Nothing” by Dire Straits.

“We went for a hip-hop influenced, electro-house style and worked in vocal samples from a variety of artists including, Ludacris, 50 Cent, Kanye West and Immortal Technique. There’s also a saxophone segment and some quotes from The Simpsons and Boogie nights mixed in to try and capture that late 80’s, early 90’s MTV Golden era kind of vibe but also sound fresh.”

Carpenter Brut – Anarchy Road

Carpenter Brut. French Synth Masters. No one does dark synthwave better. Always epic. The 3rd EP is set to be released Jan. 19 and some of us were fortunate to get an advance listen. Let me say, it is amazing. This first taste is a change of pace in that it includes vocals, like all of their tunes the production is on point and the musicality is stand out rocking. Getting further into the EP I was happy to hear them remaining true to their instrumental sound and feel like this is their most fully realized and mature production to date.Die hard fans will appreciate the familiar textures of the tracks and any complaining about this song as a “change of style” will be squashed as soon as they hear the new tunes. The first track “Division Ruine” was actually my personal favorite with its bigger than life Mad Max vibes and stellar arrangement. Discover them on their soundcloud if you have not already and grab the EP when it is released. You are welcome. Happy Monday.
